Object 6895

the Building Manual: medit

Generating Mobs in Your Zone
Medit is the editor you use to build mobs (mobiles, or creatures
if you will) for your zone. This is the section from object 3598 (the
builders guide) on Medit:
No mud can live without animals to slay. Here you can make, edit any mob
you can think of (to an extent)! Type MEDIT <mob vnum> to load the editor.
With this editor, you can set the level of a mob, damage, hitpoints, exp,
AC, spells, Standing Positon, etc. Type MEDIT SAVE <zone> to save!

There is a fine line between variety and total number of mobs in
your zone which you must learn to walk. Not enough variety of mobs in
your zone---> BORING. Too many total number of mobs in your zone--->
ANNOYING. Try to balance these to forces. As a rough guide, make around
50 different mobs for your zone but design it so that all of them are not
loaded at one time. Your zone should most certainly have rooms with no
mobs, rooms with one mob, and a few rooms with multiple mobs in it; and is
should have all these types of rooms present at one time.
Making fair and balanced mobs is a tricky thing. A new mob
system is under construction, but until it is finished, obj #6898 should
be a useful guide to consult. Try not to forget there are 5 classes and
mobs should be constructed so some classes find them harder to kill then
others ie. some mobs should be !choke, other !bash, other !blind etc.
The single most useful tool for mobs are mob progs. Take the
time to learn them and learn them well. There is an Introduction to Mob
Progs Manual (6894), a Mob Progs Manual (3892), and a Mob Progs Board (54)
in room 1211. Mob progs allow you to do a huge amount of variety and cool
things in your zone, that you simply couldn't do without them.
-At least one in five of your mobs should have a mobprog and hopefully
you will use many more then that.
